I would really like to do this in Linux if possible. I'm going to go down that end first then resort to windoze.

I have a lifetime license for Media Monkey ($40) http://www.mediamonkey.com/ so I think I'll stick with that. They have customizable skins also and a tool for it.
I've been using this for the last 5 years or so and find it to be a great media player. I'll post my skin when it's finished as well.

I know I am a bit late to the party but another good mp3 tagger and general file organizer is MetaTogger. I used it to get all of my music in order before my touchscreen project. It was useful when trying to bring multi-level music folders to a single level format. The acoustic recognition feature is great to for bulk renaming, just make sure you verify before you save.

The main site is in French but the program supports both English and French and works great.

Ok after a long pause (moving) the project is back on track! I eyed up a 5.1 Yamaha receiver at a local pawn shop and purchased an infinity 5.1 set for $240 (this is not the cheap version) that retails at $499 so I couldn't pass it up. I'm finalizing plans now it will probably be a recycled desk material with a fresh coat of spray paint.

In your case you just need to download the latest version of this software here

https://yumdownload.com/mediamonkey And it seems to me that this will be enough to solve your problem, because the developers have introduced many new features into the latest version of the software.
