Sniffing digital wireless protocols at 2.4Ghz with RTL-SDR

Postby MrOI » January 21st, 2014, 7:37 pm

I just documented my journey to sniff and decode popular digital wireless protocols off the air for very cheap. So cheap practicality anyone can obtain the equipment quickly.

I was able to decode NRF24L01+ and Bluetooth Low Energy protocols using RTL-SDR. with some very cheap analog trickery.
This opens a world of possibilities at the ISM 2.4Ghz band.

Detailed walk-through of the journey from idea to a working solution.

Thought it would be interesting for the folks here.

Yeah, I found it super useful! I've been working with some cheap TI CC2500 radios but don't have any gear that can tune 2.4GHz. Ordered that MMDS downconverter today to go with my RTL-SDR. Thanks a bunch for the guide! I'll hopefully do a similar writeup showing how to sniff and tune the CC2500.
