Zif socket atTiny programmer.

Postby Borgar » February 3rd, 2013, 1:23 pm

Hey. First post here on the forum.
This project is fairly simple but i find it useful.
I did this early december after i found an orphaned 20pin ZIF socket at work and figured i wanted to program 2313's.

Image
It is just a permanent Arduino ISP programmer with 3 4052 multiplexers to switch between the pinouts for the attiny85,84 and 2313.
The 4052 address pins are pulled down and set with a sp3t switch. I've seen shields using 3 sixway dipswitches. this seemed impractical to me.

My nano is mounted on headers and not modified in any way. I might need it for something else one day.
The leds are heartbeat/error/programming indicators

Image
Not as pretty underneath, i used this stripboard that is cut every three holes. i find these practical when working with ic's.

The predecessor was an old shield with ic sockets for 85 and 84.

please comment, ask questions or come with suggestions.

I like this very much!

Do you have some sort of circuit diagram? Trying to trace your wires is proving very difficult!
I'm interested in making one myself and was going to go down the route of SPDT switches.. which as you say is not ideal!

Thank you very much.

My schematic is hand scribbled, half knowledgeable gibberish spread over multiple sheets of paper. most of which are lost forever to the dark corners of my apartment.

But i will happily draw a new, more understandable schematic for you.
I am at work right now, but i will see if i can get it done later today and scan it for you tomorrow.

Thanks for the interest, sir.

the multiplexors are a good idea, I got lazy and ended up with a board with multiple sockets and a jumper block to send power where I wanted, its noisy though when you look at it on a scope

Hi,

I don't understand the use of multiplexers in this project.
Is there anyone kind enough to put few words of this?

they are used to change where the spi programming signals (clock, reset, data in, data out) appear on the socket to use with the other two mentioned chips
