Where do you buy basic components?

Postby zane203 » May 20th, 2015, 11:54 am

So I've been wanting to get back into building things (since I had to transfer to a new university and move back to my home state, the new university has no hands on works nor a lab to work in).

So I'm looking to build my own work area. Trouble is, I've not found the best places for buying items such as jumper cables, assorted resistors/transistors, etc. - so where do you guys buy your assorted basic items?
I don't have many projects in mind at the moment, other than a simple Studio light that I can attach to a wall/door and flip a switch that displays a light and possible a number using a segmented display.

Thanks in advance!

Now that Radio Shack has left my town, I'll either have to buy online (Amazon, Aliexpress, eBay) or wait for my annual trip to Micro Center.

I use Digikey, and chose 1st class mail for the shipping option -
it's cheaper and for me, on the East Coast, faster than UPS / FEDEX ground.

I normally get packages in 2-3 days, if I order by noon.

Also, I always get one or two or 10% extra, to allow for screw ups & to build my junk box.

Always look at rounding your order for any item up, as with resistors, etc
the cost difference between 10 and 25 of an item etc, is less than double.
